ONE FC Pitched Askren To Bellator/UFC
Even though Ben Askren is “retired,” the former ONE FC and Bellator welterweight champion has been pitched for a potential cross-promotional fight.
Per a report from the International Business times, ONE Championship CEO Chatri Sityodtong is interested in cross-promotional fight between Askren and either Georges St-Pierre or Rory MacDonald.
According to Sityodtong, ONE FC Vice President of Operations Matt Hume has been in talks with the UFC and Bellator about a potential cross company clash.
“Yeah, I have an open invitation to do world champion vs world champion fights, ONE Championship vs. UFC any day,” Sityodtong said. “I know Matt Hume has talked to [UFC president] Dana White about Ben Askren fighting in the UFC against GSP [Georges St-Pierre]… I know Matt Hume has talked to [Bellator president] Scott Coker as well and I’ve also spoken to Scott Coker about a potential world champion vs. world champion. Let’s see.”
Even though Askren has openly called out both GSP and MacDonald, Askren has had well publicized issues with Dana White stemming from a meeting several years ago, and Coker has made it clear that he doesn’t want a “one and done” from Askren.
