Pacquiao Denies Matthysse Fight Issues
After rumors have surfaced that Manny Pacquiao’s upcoming welterweight title fight against Lucas Matthysse could be postponed, Pacquiao has come out and denied those rumors.
In a press release, Pacquiao called the people alleging there are financial issues that could potentially delay the fight between him and Matthysse.
“That is malicious and untrue,” Pacquiao said.
In fact, Pacquiao said the false rumors further helped the publicity of the fight, which is currently scheduled to take place in Malaysia on July 15. Pacquiao will challenge for Matthysse’s WBA “regular” welterweight title in Matthysse’s first title defense.
“Ironically, I would like to thank these rumor-mongers for the extra publicity that they are contributing to make this fight such a huge success. I am turning this negative news into something good because no news is actually bad news,” Pacquiao said.
Matthysse’s manager Mario Arano said on Twitter the fight remains unchanged from its original July 15 fight date after Argentine TV network TyC Sports reported that the fight was headed towards postponement.
“Given the wrong versions of the postponement of Pacquiao-Matthysse, such as the news that we retweeted, Arano Box clarifies that the fight has no problem and the date remains unchanged,” Arano said.
