Pacquiao-Horn Signed for July 2
The wait to find out who Manny Pacquiao will fight next is officially over: The Filipino boxing legend has finalized his deal with Australian boxer Jeff Horn for a fight that will take place on July 2. The bout will take place in Australia.
Pacquiao’s advisor Michael Koncz confirmed with AFP that the fight has been officially signed.
"We signed the Jeff Horn contract this morning," Koncz said. "Fight is July 2 in Brisbane, Australia."
Pacquiao will be defending his WBO welterweight title against Horn. He won the belt, which he had held multiple times in his career, by defeating Jesse Vargas in November.
Though Pacquiao vs. Horn was the original fight in the works earlier this year, the fight was temporarily scrapped as Pacquiao pursued a fight against Amir Khan to take place in the United Arab Emirates.
Top Rank boss Bob Arum remained firm in his belief that the Horn fight would be next rather than a bout with Khan, and it appears he was correct.
Jeff Horn is relatively unknown outside of his native Australia, and will enter the fight with a modest 16-0-1 record.
