Pacquiao-Matthysse In Doubt Following Money Rumors
Following a report that his MP Promotions company is short by millions of dollars, Manny Pacquiao and his team insist his July 14th fight with Lucas Matthysse is on.
ESPN.com reported this week that MP Promotions is short by $2 million dollars, and have missed deadlines for various payments. Those payments include Matthysse’s purse, which according to the Phil Star newspaper, should be in an escrow account until fight night.
Pacquiao continues to train and claim there is “no problem” leading into the fight set for Kuala Lumpur.
Bob Arum, who is only acting as the broadcaster for the event and not promoting the event, has a backup plan for Matthysse, who defends his WBA Welterweight title.
Arum, who has actively spoke out on the potential of disaster, wants to set Matthysse against Terence Crawford in a fight this fall, if this one falls apart..
Pacquiao’s ring adviser, Mike Koncz, however, told philstar.com the fight is going to happen.
“Our fight will push through as I spoke to Manny an hour ago,” said Koncz.
“When the fight happens, all these doubters can eat their words.”
