RECAP: Lomachenko dominates and dances against Marriaga

Vasily Lomachenko has won two world titles in two divisions in under seven fights, tonight in Los Angeles, the two time olympian put up his WBO Jr Lightweight title against Miguel Marriaga and showed why he is one of the best young fighters in the sport.

Lomachenko controlled the tempo of the early rounds and looked to make Marriaga (coming off of a loss) take his eye off the ball. And while the challenger would score some key punches towards the end of round number two, the champion continued to control the pace and tempo of the fight.

Towards the end of the third round Lomachenko got supremely cocky, and told Marriaga to come at him, after a flurry by Marriaga, Lomachenko knocked down the challenger with under a minute in the round. After the knockdown Lomachenko went to a neutral corner and dated Marriaga to come at him, even dancing.

Lomachenko gets a cut above his eye in the 4th due to an accidental headbutt, the first time the champion had blood drawn since his first pro fight per ESPN commentator Teddy Atlas.

In the 5-6th rounds  Lomachenko landed 61 punches to Marriaga’s six, this stat is indicative to the effort that Lomachenko put in on this prime-time fight in Los Angeles

In the 7th round  with one second left, Lomachenko sent Marriaga down with his second knockdown.

After the standing eight count, the round ended with Marriaga’s corner asking for the referee to stop the fight, the Ukranian champion gets to 9-1 with the TKO in round number 7.
