Reynosos: We Clearly Won First GGG Fight
Canelo Alvarez is looking to leave no doubts on September 15th against Gennady Golovkn, and he has no doubt that he was the rightful winner of their first fight in 2017.
The fight would reach a controversial end with a twelve round split decision draw, with it going 115-113 for Golovkin, 114-114 for a draw, and judge Adalaide Byrd scoring it 118-110, which shocked most in the boxing community.
Those who weren’t shocked were Alvarez’ trainers Eddy and Chepo Reynoso, who reviewed the fight and claims Canelo clearly won the fight.
“We did a good fight. I thought we did a good fight. We fought defensively. It was a great demonstration by Saul. Obviously, he needs to throw more punches. That’s not a secret, even though I thought we won the fight clearly,” Eddy Reynoso said.
“But to win it even more clearly, he would have to throw more. We’ve been analyzing the fight a lot, and we’re going to work on that and hopefully walk away with a victory and demonstrate what we’ve learned on September 15th.”
Chepo Reynoso, agrees with his son, that Alvarez needs to be more active in his second encounter with Golovkin.
“I’ve seen the fight a few times, and I saw that Canelo won, and I think he showed a lot of great defense, enormous defense. He showed good waist movement, he made him miss a lot. As I said previously, he put water in his gunpowder, which means that he neutralized [Golovkin],” Chepo Reynoso said.
“If he needs something — if he thought he needed something in that fight, maybe he needed to throw a little bit more, maybe he needed to land a few more punches to remove any doubts about the decision, and we hope that on this occasion things will be different.”
