Rico To Defend Title At GLORY 54

A major change is being made for GLORY’s return to the United Kingdom on June 2nd, as Rico Verhoeven’s return to the ring will now be his seventh world title defense!

Announced on Wednesday by GLORY, Verhoeven was originally supposed to face Mladen Brestovac in a non-title fight, but GLORY CEO Marshall Zelaznik approached both fighters with the idea of adding a second title fight of the evening.

“With this being our long-awaited return to the UK, we wanted to do something special for the fans in Birmingham,” said Marshall Zelaznik, CEO, GLORY. “We’ll have back-to-back title fights capping off what’s sure to be an unforgettable night.”

“When we approached the fighters about increasing the stakes and potentially going two more rounds, there wasn’t a moment of hesitation from either side. Rico and Mladen are both ready to leave it all out there for GLORY gold and personally, I’m excited to see it.”

With the addition of two extra rounds to Verhoven-Brestovac, the card has been trimmed to four fights, as the lightweight clash between Elvis Gashi and William Goldie-Galloway has been moved to the GLORY 54 Superfight Series prior to GLORY 54: Birmingham.
