Robert Garcia Wants Loma-Mikey Next
Mikey Garcia’s trainer and older brother, Robert, hopes to see his brother defend his IBF and WBC lightweight titles against WBA titlist, Vasyl Lomachenko.
While Lomachenko will most likely facing Jose Pedraza when he returns to the ring in December, there would be other issues standing in the way of a fight between Garcia and the former Olympic champion.
The biggest being Garcia signed to Showtime and Lomachenko being signed to ESPN as a Top Rank fighter, which has been done recently, past acrimony between Garcia and Bob Arum makes the fight a bit harder to sign.
And while options like Errol Spence Jr and Manny Pacquiao exist, Robert wants his brother to try and clear out lightweight first.
“I would like Lomachenko first, it’s a very big fight, he’s regarded as one of the best in the world, very smart, fast, calculating and difficult and it was a good challenge for Mikey in Lightweight, that was the ideal fight for me,” Robert Garcia told ESPN Deportes.
“After that, it’s Manny Pacquiao. There are possibilities of that fight right now, now that he’s free of his contract. And then there is Spence, but I think the easiest fight to do is with Spence… the two work with Al Haymon, they have the support of Showtime and it’s probably the one we will see.”
