In 2018, Luke Rockhold gave his opinion of the light heavyweight division, as the former middleweight champion pondered a move up to 205 pounds.
Rockhold would go on to bury the chances of contenders Anthony Smith and Thiago Santos, which drew the ire of Smith at last week’s UFC press conference for their summer events.
While Smith promised to drill a hole in Rockhold’s head, the former world champion told Smith to not be a baby about it.
“The truth hurts,” Rockhold said. “He’s not gonna be drilling nothing. He better focus on the fight coming up because my opinion is, he’s about to get his ass kicked. I don’t think he’s very tough, technical, talented. He ain’t got what it takes. The kid runs his mouth, he gets all bent out of shape like a rookie. Truth hurts, baby. Truth hurts! I’m gonna go do my thing and I’ll enjoy watching him get beat up in Stockholm.”
Smith went the distance against Jon Jones at UFC 235, in a lackluster performance from the “lionhearted” 205 pounder, but now looks to reclaim a title shot against Alexander Gustafsson at UFC Stockholm, as Rockhold also looks at a title shot with a win at UFC 239 against Jan Blachowicz.
