Luke Rockhold and Yoel Romero duke it out in the main event of UFC 221 in Australia for the interim UFC Middleweight Title. But only Rockhold will be able to earn the title, as Romero missed weight for the fight.
Coincidentally enough, while Rockhold criticized Romero as being unprofessional, the former middleweight champ of the UFC and Strikeforce has apparently been doing some thinking about his own weight.
As reported by MMA Fighting, Rockhold, while talking with the media mentioned that he feels a move up to the 205-pound division is likely, as he feels his body soon won’t be able to handle a weight cut to 185. It also helps that Rockhold’s teammate, UFC Light Heavyweight Champion Daniel Cormier, plans on returning to heavyweight to challenge UFC Heavyweight Champion Stipe Miocic at UFC 226 in July.
“It never gets any easier. I’m getting older and my bones are getting thicker and it gets harder to get down to this weight,” Rockhold said. “Having this open workout on a Friday, it’s tough. But I feel good. I’ve got a great team around me. Lockhart and Leith have got nutrition down to a science. I’m ahead of schedule and I’ll be fine, but 205 is imminent.
DC is moving up to heavyweight. He’s not coming back, so I’ll be up there soon.
