It seems like yesterday that Bob Sapp was hot commodity in MMA and kickboxing, competing in many different K-1 events and against the likes of Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira and Mirko Cro Cop. But Sapp’s value has gone down drastically since that time, to say the least.
Since winning an MMA bout on New Year’s Eve 2008, Sapp has gone 1-17 in MMA bouts, and before yesterday, he had lost 9 of his last 12 kickboxing bouts since 2009. His last MMA bout came in July 2016, but on Aug. 4, Sapp had last competed in kickboxing in a shoot boxing rules bout against former yokozuna Akebono at a Rizin event on New Year’s Eve 2015.
On Aug. 4, Sapp competed in a kickboxing bout in France against Greg Tony. At the weigh-in, Tony threw a drink onto Sapp, who attacked his opponent.
The brawl at the weigh-in proved to be more exciting than the real bout, as less than two minutes into the bout, Sapp went down and refused to continue.
