Shevchenko-Eubanks To Headline UFC 230

Valentina Shevchenko has gotten her shot to become UFC women’s flyweight champion. And while it may not be against former champion Nicco Montano, or even rumored opponent Joanna Jedrzejczyk, but it will be the headlining fight for UFC’s return to Madison Square Garden on November 3rd at UFC 231.

Initially reported by ESPN’s Brett Okamoto, Shevchenko will be paired with Sijara Eubanks for the title in the Pay-Per-View’s main event.

The second fight in the championship’s history will be the third time this year that Shevchenko has been scheduled to fight for it. Initially slated to face inaugural champion, Nicco Montano at UFC 228, Montano would be hospitalized due to a weight cut, causing the fight to be cancelled and the title to be stripped from the fighter.

The UFC would then book Shevchenko to face former strawweight champion Jedrzejczyk, at UFC 231 in December, but with UFC 230 a month away and lacking a headlining fight, the promotion would give Shevchenko and Eubanks the slot.

Eubanks was the person slated to face Montano in the finals of the 26th season of The Ultimate Fighter, but after missing weight, she’d be replaced by Roxanne Modafferi, who’d fall to Montano by unanimous decision.
