Shields Takes Decision Over Gabriels
The biggest match in women’s boxing is getting closer to being a reality tonight, as Christina Hammer and Claressa Shields won their fights at the Masonic Temple in Detroit.
Shields would walk into the ring coming down in weight, looking to collect the two middleweight titles not held by Hammer, facing off against Gabriels for the IBF and WBA crowns.
The two time Olympic champion would return to Detroit for the first time since her August 2017 knockout win over Nikki Adler. This would also be her first fight with new trainer,John David Jackson. Shields would take to Florida in this camp, looking to avoid hometown distractions and be more focused for the toughest challenger in her career.
Shields would go head hunting in the first round, and get caught with an uppercut and send Shields to the canvas for the first time in her career, and cost her the first round.

Aggression would be the word of the fight, a both Gabriels and Shields would throw leather the entire fight, but from round two on it would be Shields’ fight.
Even though it was not the most proficient fight of her career, Shields would control the exchanges and showcase her power and speed with her punches against Gabriels.
Following the fight, Shields would call out Hammer, and say she’d fight her right now. Both fighters would go face to face with one of the members of Hammer’s camp getting into Shields face and the Olympian threatening to “whoop his a**, too.”
