The Road To Redemption For VanNostrand Begins At GLORY 55
Kevin VanNostrand doesn’t see GLORY 55’s co-headlining fight as a chance to become interim featherweight champion, with a win, he will get a change to avenge his loss to Robin VanRoosmalen.
VanNostrand returns to the Hulu Theater at Madison Square Garden, where he won the interim featherweight crown in December 2017, with a devastating first round knockout of Anvar Boynazarov at GLORY 48.
“Its an honor to even be in this position, to get a second chance,” VanNostrand told FIGHT SPORTS during fight week.
VanNostrand replaced the man who defeated him for the undisputed featherweight crown at GLORY 52, Robin Van Roosmalen, who suffered a training injury leading up to GLORY 55.
VanNostrand would find out he’d get his chance at redemption while driving his work truck. “I was out of town, my promoter hit me up, I pulled the truck over, my hands were shaking,” The Liverpool, New York based fighter said over the phone.
“I was so excited, it was a dream come true. I was already working out twice a day, but now I have more drive.”
“I’m going for the W, that’s it, by all means necessary, VanNostrand said as he prepares to face Petchpanomrung Kiatmookao on July 20th. “Anything I can do to get the win, to see Robin later on this year.”
When it comes to the motivation to take this fight, for VanNostrand, its not about being an “interim” champion, its about evening the score with the current title holder. “Its not another shot at the interim title, its another shot at Robin, that’s what I want,” VanNostrand told FIGHT SPORTS.
“In GLORY, my only defeat was Giga (Chikadze)… and I got that shot to face him again in the tournament, and I beat him. Now, Robin, he’s the next person. He’s beaten me, yeah we went the distance, but (Kiatmookao), went the distance too. That’s really nothing to brag about. I just want another shot at Robin, because I don’t like failure, I don’t like losing.”
