Top Rank Wins Saucedo-Hooker Bid

The WBO has announced that Top Rank would walk away with the promotional rights for the junior welterweight championship fight between Maurice Hooker and mandatory challenger Alex Saucedo.

The two undefeated fighters were unable to come to terms within the 20 day deadline set by the San Juan, Puerto Rico based WBO, and were forced into a purse bid on Tuesday.

Saucedo’s promoters, Top Rank, would submit a $1,625,000 bid, while Hooker’s team at Matchroom Boxing would fall short with a $1,555,000 purse for the title fight.

Per Top Rank winning the bid, Matchroom loses out on a airing the fight on DAZN, as ESPN will broadcast the deal through their relationship with Top Rank. The fight will happen in Oklahoma City on November 16th or 17th.

Hooker would win his title in June when he’d defeat Terry Flanagan for the WBO crown. Hooker nearly joined the roster of an upcoming Junior welterweight tournament through the World Boxing Super Series, but was blocked by the WBO due to his mandatory defense.
