UFC 221 Attendance, Gate, & Bonuses
An attendance of 12,437 people came out to the Perth Arena in Perth, Australia, for UFC 221 on Feb. 10 — the UFC’s first event held in West Australia.
UFC executive Dave Shaw, speaking to the media at the UFC 221 post-fight press conference, announced a gate of $3.6 million (AUD), or approximately $2.8 million (US). This reportedly makes UFC 221 the largest-grossing sports event in the history of Perth Arena, according to Shaw.
The Fight of the Night bonus was given to the welterweight main card contest between Jake Matthews and Li Jingliang. Despite Jingliang committing multiple uncalled fouls to break a submission hold, the fight was well-received by the MMA community for its intensity.
Performance of the Night bonuses went out to featherweight Alexander Volkanovski and flyweight Jussier Formiga, both of whom competed in the televised preliminary card. Volkanovski dominated Jeremy Kennedy for a late second-round TKO victory in a performance that had people comparing him to Khabib Nurmagomedov. Formiga, meanwhile, defeated Ben Nguyen by rear-naked choke submission in the third round to claim victory in his own right.
All four bonus winners will receive an additional $50,000.
