UFC 222: Attendance, Gate, Bonuses
An attendance of 12,041 came out to the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada, for UFC 222, drawing a live gate of $1,367,672, UFC President Dana White announced at the post-fight press conference.
The Fight of the Night bonus was given to the main card bout between Sean O’Malley and Andre Soukhamthath. O’Malley, who received a UFC contract after his appearance on Dana White’s Contender Series, dominated the first two rounds in spectacular fashion. O’Malley injured his foot on a blocked kick, but with the fight going to the ground, he was able to hold out and win via unanimous decision.
O’Malley also delivered a well-received post-fight interview despite lying on the mat on his back in clear agony.
Performance of the Night bonuses went out to Brian Ortega and Alexander Hernandez. In the co-main event, Ortega provided a highlight reel, first-round knockout and became the first man to finish Frankie Edgar in his professional career. Hernandez, meanwhile, had a shocker of his own on the preliminary card by knocking out Beneil Dariush injust 42 seconds.
