UFC 225 To Exceed 150K Buys

Following reports that UFC 225 was set to bomb with under 150,000 pay per view buys, it has cleared the mark per new projections.

Initially reported by the Los Angeles Times at under 150,000 buys, UFC’s lead attorney Hunter Campbell denied the claims and stated that the number was “something in excess of six figures” more than the number given.

Per Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer and MMA Fighting, reported a new estimate of nearly 250,000 buys, which combine both the traditional television purchases and the streaming purchases.

The card headlined by a Robert Whittaker and Yoel Romero rematch, which was mired by Romero missing weight, and a co-main event of an interim welterweight title fight of Rafael dos Anjos and Colby Covington, was expected to perform better than what’s been reported.

The UFC attempted to add star power by inserting Holly Holm’s return and CM Punk’s second UFC fight in the card, which may have helped bolster numbers, but still fall short of expectations.
