UFC 227: Attendance, Gate, Bonuses

A sold-out crowd of 17,800 came out to the Staples Center in Los Angeles, California, for UFC 227 on Aug. 4. As a result, the UFC drew a gate of $2.9 million.

The flyweight title clash between Demetrious Johnson and Henry Cejudo earned Fight of the Night honors. After a very technical and close bout, which many in the MMA community praised and had at least 2-2 heading into the fifth (if not 3-1 in favor of Cejudo), Cejudo pulled off the win and became the new champion. This ended Johnson’s record of consecutive successful title defenses at 11 and his 13-fight win streak. “Mighty Mouse” Johnson had been the sole champion of the division since the title’s inception in 2012.

Performance of the Night bonuses went to UFC Bantamweight Champion TJ Dillashaw and featherweight Renato Moicano. Dillashaw successfully retained his title in the main event, defeating Cody Garbrandt via first-round TKO in a rematch from their UFC 217 clash. Renato Moicano, meanwhile, stopped Cub Swanson with a second-round submission.

All bonus recipients received $50,000.
