UFC 228: Attendance, Gate, Bonuses
A crowd of 14,073 packed into the American Airlines Center in Dallas, Texas, on Sept. 8 for UFC 228, bringing in a gate of $1,714,556.08.
It was the MMA promotion’s fifth event in Dallas since 2009, but it turned out to also be the lowest attended event and gate brought in out of all five events.
The most attended event the UFC has put on in Dallas was UFC 171 back in March 2014, when a crowd of 19,324 brought in a gate of $2.6 million and saw Johny Hendricks defeat Robbie Lawler to win the then-vacant UFC Welterweight Title. The biggest gate was when UFC 211 raked in a gate of $2.66 million when 17,834 were in the venue to see then-heavyweight champion Stipe Miocic defend against Junior dos Santos.
Per the UFC, Performance of the Night bonuses went out to Tyron Woodley and Jessica Andrade, while the early prelim fight between Irene Aldana and Lucie Pudilova earned Fight of the Night honors.
Woodley scored a second-round submission over Darren Till to retain the UFC Welterweight Championship in the main event. In the co-main event, Andrade scored a vicious first-round knockout over Karolina Kowalkiewicz. Aldana scored the split decision over Pudilova in the second fight of the evening, a match that saw both women’s faces busted open by the end.
No wrong answers tonight.
