UFC Doc Series Debuts With Matt Hughes Story
In a similar fashion to ESPN’s 30 for 30 series to mark the network’s 30th anniversary, the UFC will produce a 25-part documentary series UFC: 25 Years in Short, which will feature the the history of the MMA brand leader, from the origin story of the UFC Octagon, to its issues with Senator John McCain and being labeled as “human cockfighting,” but will first feature the story of one of its most popular fighters.
On September 14th, the UFC will release a preview episode of the series focused on Matt Hughes and his miraculous recovery following his truck being hit by a train in his native St. Louis in 2017.
Hughes would be able to walk back into the Octagon less than a year after his accident, when the UFC returned to St. Louis in January of this year.
Hughes held the UFC welterweight title multiple times between 2001 and 2004 and a UFC Hall Of Famer. He retired from active competition in 2011.
