Usman vs. Maia Official for UFC Chile

Kamaru Usman has a new opponent for the main event of the May 19 UFC Fight Night in Santiago, Chile, as he will face former welterweight title challenger Demian Maia.

The news was first reported by MMA Fighting before eventually being confirmed by the UFC.

Usman has challenged Maia via social media on multiple occasions in the past, stating he can finish the Brazilian jiu-jitsu specialist in one round. The winner of The Ultimate Fighter: American Top Team vs. Blackzilians has won 12 of his 13 professional fights, including all seven he has had in the UFC thus far. He recently scored a decision win over Emil Weber Meek back in January.

Maia, meanwhile, is coming off back-to-back decision losses to UFC Welterweight Champion Tyron Woodley in July and Colby Covington in October. Prior to the consecutive losses, the Brazilian had won seven straight.

UFC Chile has lost both its originally planned main event and co-main event. Volkan Oezdemir vs. Mauricio Rua was rescheduled for UFC Hamburg in July.
