Usyk To Debut At Heavyweight In May

Oleksandr Usyk has made his decision as the undisputed cruiserweight champion has decided to test himself as a heavyweight.

“Most likely, the ring return of Oleksandr Usyk will take place in the heavyweight division on either May 18th or 25th in the USA,” Usyk’s co-promoter Alex Krassyuk announced through social media  on Wednesday.

Looking to follow up a year where he unified the cruiserweight division and retired Tony Bellew with an 8th round knockout in November, Usyk will fight over 205 pounds for the first time since his second pro fight.

As reported earlier this week, Usyk could be considered the WBO’s mandatory challenger with his distinction of being the governing body’s “super” champion at cruiserweight, and can call on that upon moving up to the heavyweight class.
