Van Zyl, Dalcha retain EFC Championships

It was a tough challenge for Andrew van Zyl, but he retained the EFC heavyweight championship by defeating Wessel Mostert in the main event of EFC 61. Meanwhile, "Champion" Dalcha Lungiambula kept his light heavyweight title in unbelievable fashion.

Van Zyl seemed in trouble early on, as Mostert dominated the opening round of their title bout landed several hard combinations, including a couple of punches that really tested van Zyl’s chin. Van Zyl, however, did manage to stun the challenger a couple of times throughout the second and lock him in clinches. While Mostert continued throwing his hard shots, he did seem somewhat fatigued.

Ultimately, in the third round, the champion scored a takedown and got into full mount, unleashing a ground-and-pound attack until Mostert gave up his back. After a rear-naked choke attempt, van Zyl got back into full mount with a ground-and-pound, which continued when Mostert gave up his back again. The referee had no choice but to stop the fight, giving the win to van Zyl.

In the co-main event, "Champion" Dalcha Lungiambula defeated Alan Baudot, making his promotional debut, to retain the EFC light heavyweight championship. After some brief moving around the hexagon and feeling each other out, Baudot fired away with a flurry of punches. However, Lungiambula, while covering up, threw a sudden haymaker that landed right on Baudot’s jaw to get the win in just 26 seconds.
