Van Zyl Looks To Go Full Tilt At EFC 71
This Saturday night, one month before Daniel Cormier and Stipe Miocic face off in a champion versus champion battle, the EFC’s heavyweight and light heavyweight champion will square off at EFC 71.
Andrew Van Zyl, EFC’s heavyweight champion looks to reassert his dominance inside the EFC cage, as he faces light heavyweight champion Dalcha Lungiambula, in Van Zyl’s hometown.
Van Zyl would walk out of EFC 66 with a split decision victory, ending a four fight TKO streak for the Johannesburg native. In a conversation with FIGHT SPORTS, The man known as “One Gear,” for his ability to go “full tilt’, isn’t to worried about the fight going five rounds.
“Dalcha is no easy fight,” explained the EFC heavyweight champion, “I will take [the fight] where it needs to go. ”
“He can’t keep me off of him for five rounds.”
At Friday’s weigh-ins, Dalcha would come in at 215 pounds, while Van Zyl would step on the scale with 42 pounds heavier than the light heavyweight champion.
Lungiambula is a world class judoka, which is something Van Zyl is well-aware of, but believes there is no way the light heavyweight could keep him on the ground.”[Dalcha] lacks the ability to dominate from [top] position,” Van Zyl told FIGHT SPORTS. “He doesn’t have the ability to control me on the ground.”
