VanZant vs. Eye Set To Be Pulled From UFC 216
One of the main card fights for next week’s UFC 216 in Las Vegas according to Ariel Helwani, as Paige VanZant suffered an injury in camp. The injury which has not been confirmed by the UFC may have VanZant’s fight with Jessica Eye scrapped.
Per MMA Fighting the UFC flyweight suffered an intervertebral disc injury while training jiu-jitsu and was advised by her doctor to avoid training for a few weeks. VanZant won’t need to undergo surgery for the issue.
The Paige VanZant vs. Jessica Eye flyweight fight was one of the marquee fights for this Saturday’s return to the T-Mobile Arena, which also features the Ray Borg and Demetrious Johnson fight which was moved off the UFC 215 card due to health concerns for Borg. It also featured a headline fight for the interim lightweight title between Tony Lee and Kevin Ferguson.
VanZant hasn’t fought since her December loss to Michelle Waterson, while Eye’s last fight was in Sept. 2016. Eye was scheduled to fight at UFC 213 in July, however, the fight was scrapped on fight day after Aspen Ladd, her opponent, fell ill.
