Verhoeven-Saddik Confirmed for Dec. GLORY PPV
Similar to last year’s GLORY: Collision, GLORY will be holding a pay-per-view event early in the month of December, and it has pegged a big main event for the card.
GLORY Kickboxing will present GLORY: Redemption on Saturday, Dec. 9, from the Rotterdam Ahoy in the Netherlands. In the main event, native hero and GLORY Heavyweight Champion Rico Verhoeven will defend the GLORY title against Jamal Ben Saddik.
The bout and pay-per-view were made official with a staredown during GLORY 45.
The redemption name for this pay-per-view may, in fact, come from the meaning behind the main event. Out of all the loses Verhoeven has suffered in his professional kickboxing career, only two people have been able to finish him — one of those men is Saddik. At an It’s Showtime event back in March 2011, Saddik defeated Verhoeven via corner-stoppage TKO one minute into the second round.
At the GLORY 45 staredown, Saddik guaranteed another second-round knockout, to which, Verhoeven replied: “If he wants it, try to come and get it, baby.”
Verhoeven has been practically unstoppable since winning the GLORY Heavyweight Championship back at GLORY 17 in Los Angeles in June 2014. He has made five title defenses, and has picked up superfight wins over the likes of Badr Hari and, most recently, Ismael Lazaar.
Since defeating Verhoeven, Saddik has had his share of ups and downs. But the people he has defeated also contain a few noticeable names, including: Errol Zimmerman, Anderson Silva, and, most recently at GLORY 39, Guto Inocente.
For the record, the other man who has finished Verhoeven is Zimmerman. The two re-matched at GLORY 9 in New York during June 2013, where Zimmerman lost by decision.
Before Verhoeven gets into the ring with Saddik, he’ll face UFC veteran Antonio “Bigfoot” Silva as part of the SuperFight Series for GLORY 46 in China.
