Volkov Honors Werdum After UFC London Fight

Following what can be considered the biggest victory in his career, Alexander Volkov took time to thank the man he beat at UFC Fight Night 127.

Volkov, a former Bellator heavyweight champion, stopped Fabricio Werdum in the fourth round in London last weekend.

And while  Volkov is excited about what’s next for him, he paid respect to his friend and old traning partner with a heartfelt post on Instagram.

A few days after the fight, I would like to say my respect to my opponent @werdum. It is a honor for me to fight with such a titled fighter, and thanks to Fabricio for having accepted this challenge. It’s a sport, and each of us tried to show our maximum this evening. Training and fighting with Werdum is a great experience for me, which gives me the opportunity to develop further. I wish Fabricio to return to the Octagon as soon as possible, and I will support him in each of the next fights, as I did before. #ufc #ufcrussia #ufceurope #strelapromotion #alexandervolkov #fabriciowerdum

With a win, Volkov has put himself in whisper distance for a title opportunity, and more than likely will face the winner of the UFC 226 battle between heavyweight champion Stipe Miocic and light heavyweight champion Daniel Cormier.
