Ward: Mikey Garcia & Lomachenko Is A Dream Fight
Following his night broadcasting for HBO, Andre Ward discussed Vasyl Lomachenko’s victory over Guillermo Rigondeaux who decided to quit after the sixth round. Rigondeaux didn’t answer the bell for the seventh round, citing an injury to his left hand.
“I didn’t expect Rigondeaux to quit. I didn’t expect that at all. I think that they got him at the right time with the age (37) and the weight but that goes with the territory. It kind of is what it is. It is not Lomachenko’s fault so I don’t want to marginalize his win. He did what he had to do and I don’t think anybody expected Rigondeaux to quit,”
As far as an opponent who’d give Lomachenko a run for his money, Ward said that Mikey Garcia would be the best possible option.
“Mikey is a beast. That is a super fight in my opinion,” Ward stated.
The former super middleweight and light heavyweight champion believes that a Lomachenko- Garcia fight would be as close to an even fight as you could get.
“It is tough to say. I am not really big on picking winners unless I know. Super fights and big fights that are 50-50 – they are just that. You gotta let it play out because I got an argument for Mikey and I got an argument for Lomachenko.”
