Warren: GGG Walked Away From Saunders Deal
Following his win over Vanes Martirosyan, Gennady Golovkin’s trainer Abel Sanchez, claimed that Billy Joe Saunders really doesn’t want to fight GGG.
Golovkin is currently focused on facing Canelo Alvarez in September, but does want to unify his three middleweight titles with Saunders WBA title.
Frank Warren, Saunders’ promoter claimed that the two sides attempted to set a fight during the summer of 2017. Saunders in a Twitter post claims that it was Golovkin who walked away from a deal after Saunders had signed.
This is just simply not true!@bjsaunders_ signed his part of the contract to face @GGGBoxing in Kazakhstan last June and then GGG’s side wasn’t signed. If you are really serious about fighting for all the belts, get your promoter to call me and let’s get the fight made. FW pic.twitter.com/eQjeZV17sa

“[Billy Joe Saunders] signed his part of the contract to face [Gennady Golovkin] in Kazakhstan last June and then GGG’s side wasn’t signed. If you are really serious about fighting for all the belts, get your promoter to call me and let’s get the fight made.”
The alleged reason was due to Golovkin’s physical state after going the distance with Danny Jacobs. And allegedly there was an apparent ultimatum from Golden Boy that Golovkin not take a fight before facing Canelo Alvarez in their September showdown.
