After stopping Phil Lo Greco in under a minute, Amir Khan has promised a better show against Samuel Vargas on September 8th.
The fight was announced on Thursday, in a press conference in Birmingham, where the two fighters will square off at the Arena Birmingham.
Khan steps up in challenger, by taking on Top Ten WBA ranked Vargas in what may be a welterweight eliminator for the sanctioning body.
“One of my aims this year was to be as active as possible, so I’m very happy to get back in the ring again so soon against Samuel Vargas,” said Khan.
“I have to get past Vargas before looking at the biggest challenges going forward. I’m not going to be taking Vargas lightly because I know he will be coming with everything on September 8.”
Vargas told the press today that Khan needs to look at him as a real challenge, and not to view him like his fellow Canadian, Lo Greco, who was KO’ed in 39 seconds.
“I have been granted more than enough time to properly prepare for Amir and you will see the best Samuel Vargas to date,” Vargas told those in attendance on Thursday.
“Mark my words, we might both be from the same city and county but I am nothing like Phil Lo Greco that’s a guarantee – I’m going to give Amir hell.”
