White Admits Zuffa Boxing Has Stumbled
During the build-up to, and the aftermath of, the Floyd Mayweather vs. Conor McGregor boxing match, a point that got people talking was a “Zuffa Boxing” shirt worn by UFC President Dana White, who confirmed he was looking at getting into the boxing promotion business. White to have boxing under the UFC umbrella.
In the past several months, White has attempted to talk with several fighters about possibly signing with him, including WBC/IBF Lightweight Champion Mikey Garcia. Rumors flew around he was even possibly looking at signing unified heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua.
Recently, White promised a big move for the brand but has since gone unanswered. White appeared on the UFC Unfiltered podcast and admitted things haven’t been going as hoped for the brand, but part of it is that he doesn’t want to dive head first into.
“We’re still working on stuff,” White said. “A lot of things didn’t line up the way that I thought they would in the boxing world when I said we’re about to make a ballsy move. The thing kind of took a left turn, so I wasn’t able to make an offer on that deal yet. But when that deal does happen, and when it comes, I’m going to jump in.”
