Whyte-Parker Set For July 28th
Following a rumor from ESPN that he’d be taking on Luis Ortiz, and a failed purse bid with Kubrat Pulev, Dillian Whyte officially has an opponent for July 28th.
The opponent is former WBO world heavyweight champion, Joseph Parker. Parker, who was also rumored and at one point confirmed by his opponent, to be fighting in August in Atlantic City.
Parker, last seen in March in a decision loss to Anthony Joshua will face off with Whyte at the O2 Arena in London, in what can be seen as a contender fight for either Joshua or WBC champion Deontay Wilder.
“There’s going to be blood, pain and a knockout. I’m bang up for this,” Whyte said.
“Beating Parker should almost guarantee me a World Title shot but let’s see… He’s going to be very desperate, I’m expecting the best Joseph Parker because he can’t afford to have back to back defeats.”
Parker is looking forward to facing Whyte, and would find a way to point out Whyte’s 2015 loss to Anthony Joshua.
“We’ve both been in with AJ,” Parker said in London. “One of us ended the fight on our feet, the other didn’t. That pretty much speaks for itself,” said Parker – the only fighter to so far take Joshua the full distance.
“I’m really looking forward to fighting Dillian. He’s got a big mouth and says some funny things – and he’s also highly entertaining in the ring. It’ll be an incredible fight. There’s no doubt about that.
