WSOF Champ Gaethje Enters Free Agency

One of the most exciting champions in the sport of MMA — and one of the most exciting fighters, period — is now on the market. World Series of Fighting lightweight champion Justin Gaethje has reportedly entered free agency and is fielding offers from a number of promotions.

FOX Sports confirmed on Monday that Gaethje was officially a free agent after MMAFighting’s report in the fall that detailed his plans to test the open market.

Gaethje (17-0) has developed a name for himself beyond his World Series of Fighting championship, as his uniquely wild style of fighting has produced some of the best fights of the past few years.

World Series of Fighting holds the right to match any offer Gaethje receives from other promotions.

Gaethje is the latest WSOF champion to test the open market. Bantamweight champion Marlon Moraes, who like Gaethje was one of the promotion’s signature fighters, recently vacated his title and is reportedly close to signing with the UFC.

Middleweight and light-heavyweight champion David Branch also vacated his titles and signed with the UFC. He is set to fight Krzysztof Jotko at UFC 211.
