19-Year-Old Boxer Dies Due To Brain Injuries

The life of a teenage boxer has been cut short after suffering head trauma.

Multiple reports have confirmed that amateur boxer, Rashed Al-Swaisat, passed away after suffering a brain injury during the International Boxing Association world youth championships in Poland. He was 19 years old.

Swaisat was rushed to the hospital on April 16 after collapsing in the third round of his bout with Anton Winogradow. Swaisat underwent emergency brain surgery but to no avail.

The AIBA issued the following statement.

It is with deep sadness that we learned of the passing of Rashed Al-Swaisat of Jordan, who had been admitted to hospital on April 16 further to his fight during the AIBA YWCHs. Our thoughts are with his family, friends and teammates, to whom we offer our sincere condolences.”
