The world of MMA and gaming have seen a rapid crossover the past few years highlighted by UFC flyweight champion Demetrious Johnson being a preeminent streamer on the platform TWITCH.
Johnson, Angela Hill and Jens Pulver will all be competing for a chance at the $200,000 prize pool at Daybreak Games’ H1Z1 Invitational later this month at TwitchCon, a convention for the platform’s fans and users.
The trio of fighters will be in the All-Stars portion of the tournament, as they will take on others for a chance to be the winners.
Johnson is coming off an historic victory last weekend at UFC 216 in Las Vegas. Johnson beat Ray Borg by fifth-round submission to set the UFC record for most consecutive title defenses (11). “Mighty Mouse” did so with a finish straight out of a video game — a suplex variation into an armbar. It was one of the greatest fight-ending sequences in promotion history.
Hill, the former Invicta FC strawweight champion, will be back in action against Nina Ansaroffat UFC Norfolk on Nov. 11. Pulver, a legend of the sport, began his career back in 1999 and owns a victory over BJ Penn.
The H1Z1 Invitational takes place Oct. 21 and Oct. 22 at Long Beach Convention Center. The All-Stars portion of the tournament will begin 2 p.m. on Oct. 21.
