A Family Affair: Gary Antuanne, Antonio To Fight On Russell Jr. Card
As Gary Russell Jr. (30-1, 18 KO) looks to defeat another mandatory challenger in Tugstsogt Nyambayar, he won’t be the only member of his family fighting for a win. Brothers Gary Antuanne and Antonio Russell will both be fighting on the Showtime-produced card on February 8.
Gary Antuanne (12-0) will face off against Jose Marrufo. A super lightweight, the 23-year-old brother of Mr. Gary Russell Jr. has won all of his bouts by way of knockout. He won four fights in 2019, and is looking to continue his winning ways with more fights under his belt. Gary Antuanne had a stint in the Olympics in 2016.
The younger Russell brother faces a step up in competition in Marrufo (12-9-2). The Mexican-born fighter recently lost to Willie Shaw back in August via majority decision. He was 2-0 prior to that, with one of those wins against Shaw via majority decision.
The middle Russell, Antonio (16-0) has 12 wins via knockout. He also has four wins in 2019, his last one a TKO-win over Samuel Gutierrez in November. The 26-year-old also won his first fight of 2019 against Jose Maria Cardenas via TKO. The other bouts featured wins over Saul Eduardo Hernandez via technical decision and Francisco Pedroza via unanimous decision.
An opponent has not been announced for Antonio as of this time. Both Gary Antuanne and Antonio will be fighting on the non-televised card of the Premier Boxing Champions event. The event will take place inside the PPL Center in Allentown, PA.
