Adesanya Favored By Oddsmakers In Strickland Rematch

It wouldn't be the first time "Izzy" bounced back immediately

In spite of the lopsided unanimous decision victory for Sean Strickland (28-5) this past Saturday at UFC 293, Adesanya has been listed as the betting favorite for their potential title rematch by the oddsmakers with BetOnline.ag.

For their first meeting, “Izzy” came in as a massive favorite at a staggering -650, while Strickland, understandably, was the heavy underdog at +470. Strickland shocked the world by making seemingly easy work of the two-time middleweight champion and snatched the title from Adesanya in a unanimous decision.

This time around, for the rematch that Dana White expressed interest in setting up, Adesanya has opened as the favorite to win once again, but the odds are considerably closer than their first fight, for obvious reasons. The oddsmakers have listed “The Last Stylebender” at -120 and Strickland at +100, giving Adesanya a 54.55% chance to avenge his loss.

With these current odds, a $100 bet on Adesanya would yield winnings of $183.33. Conversely, a $100 bet on Strickland would pay out $200.

This would not be the first time Adesanya bounced back in a big way, and the oddsmakers are surely taking that into account. Following his TKO loss to Alex Pereira (8-2), Adesanya was also listed as the favorite for their immediate rematch, and for good reason, as he finished his nemesis with strong punches in just the second round.

The current status of the potential rematch between Adesanya and Strickland has yet to be confirmed. While Dana White expressed interest in the rematch during the press conference following UFC 293, there are still things to consider. Such as, what to do with Dricus Du Plessis (20-2) who is coming off a decisive win over Robert Whittaker, and who many believe should be next in line for a shot at the title.
