Alberto Puello Gets Six-Month Ban For His Failed VADA Test

Alberto Puello has been banned for six months after he failed a VADA test in April.

According to reports, the former WBA junior-welterweight champion failed a VADA test for Clomiphene.

This happened to be the same substance that Conor Benn tested positive for on two occasions.

At the time, however, Puello confirmed that he had cooperated with the authorities fully.

“We already sent the evidence to the proper agencies. We have proof of the doctor visits, the hospital stays and his wife’s pregnancy,” ,” Belgica Peña, Puello’s promoter

Nevertheless, Puello couldn’t face Rolando Romero at 140 lbs as he lost his title. He was declared a ‘champion in recess’ while the authorities investigated.

In the meantime, Rolly faced Ismael Barroso, as Romero won via a controversial ninth-round stoppage.

And now the Nevada State Athletic Commission has confirmed that Puello’s ban will extend to October 5th, 2023.

Given the nature of strict liability, where intent does not factor into a decision, Puello’s six-month ban appears on the lenient side. Not only that, but he avoided paying any fines that could have been costly.

And once his ban is over, Puello will be amongst the names fighting for a world title.

But that did not go down well with the boxing community on social media, who wanted a tougher stance on the punishment for failed tests.
