The light heavyweight tilt between Aleksandar Rakic and Anthony Smith is in the books.
Rakic and Smith shared the Octagon in the main event of UFC on ESPN+ 33. The two 205-pounders clashed inside the UFC APEX in Las Vegas, Nevada. Both men were looking to bounce back after suffering losses in their last outings.
Early in the fight, the two light heavyweights were trading leg kicks. Smith’s leg appeared to buckle as he went down. Smith then tried turning the tables by taking the back of Rakic. He couldn’t make that position last as Rakic was able to gain top control.
In the second stanza, Rakic immediately went back to the leg kicks. He then landed a knee and followed that up with a body kick. Smith moved inside but was taken down. “Lionheart” attempted an armbar from the bottom but nothing doing. Rakic maintained control for the remainder of the round.
Rakic came out swinging at the start of the final frame. He went low and high with kicks. He landed a knee to the head but Smith ate it. Rakic was able to score another takedown and he held Smith on the canvas nearly all the way until the final horn.
All three judges scored the fight for Rakic. The score totals were 30-26, 30-27, and 30-27.
Also featured on the card was a clash between Neil Magny and former UFC Welterweight Champion Robbie Lawler. Magny ended up besting Lawler via unanimous decision. Women’s flyweights Alexa Grasso and Ji Yeon Kim also collided. Grasso took the unanimous decision victory.
