Alex Pereira Comments On Conor McGregor Bowing Out Of UFC 303

Many heave given their opinion on Conor McGregor’s withdraw from UFC 303, now light heavyweight champion Alex Pereira has added his thoughts.

McGregor was set to square off with Michael Chandler in a highly anticipated bout between the former opposing coaches of ‘The Ultimate Fighter’ season 31. But due to an unfortunate injury to the Irishman’s toe, the bout has been cancelled and the waiting game for Chandler, not to mention the fans, will continue.

Shortly after McGregor’s injury was revealed, it was announced that Alex Pereira would take on Jiri Prochazka to headline the card. Recently, at UFC 303 Media Day, “Poatan” gave his thoughts on “The Notorious” backing out the upcoming event.

“I can never judge people’s pain, and it’s different scenarios, different situations,” Pereira said in Portuguese through a translator at Wednesday’s UFC 303 media day. “He made his name, he made his money, and I’m kind of halfway there. I fought with a broken toe in my situation, but maybe if I were in his situation, maybe I would’ve not fought, so I can’t judge.”

In contrast to many negative statements being made by fighters such as Ilia Topuria regarding McGregor’s situation, Pereira had a bit of a fresh take. While clearly there is some public upset, the Brazilian champion indicated that McGregor may be making an intelligent decision to come in at 100%.

Pereira and Prochazka first met in the octagon back in 2023 at UFC 295. In the closing minute of the second round of their bout, Pereira was able to stop the Czech fighter with a series of hard strikes. Through this victory, Pereira captured the vacant 205-pound title, becoming a two division UFC champion.
