Alex Pereira Responds To Artem Vakhitov’s Criticism Of His Fighting Style

Alex Pereira has responded to Artem Vakhitov’s criticism of his fighting style.

Vakhitov is the last fighter to have secured a win over Pereira in kickboxing during their time in GLORY Kickboxing. Pereira secured a split decision victory in their first fight. That made him a two-division undisputed champion. The rematch went Vakhitov’s way, who won a majority decision.

Pereira would then leave GLORY to sign with the UFC. The Brazilian has won titles at middleweight and light heavyweight. Meanwhile, Vakhitov has transitioned into MMA with a 2-1 record. Vakhitov downplayed Pereira’s skills, stating that he is vulnerable when he attacks. He referenced Israel Adesanya’s second-round KO win over the Brazilian at UFC 287. Pereira had Izzy on the cage before getting knocked out with a counter shot. Vakhitov fancied his chances in a trilogy.

“I am very motivated by the prospect of getting that trilogy match with Pereira. He’s a superstar now and I am happy for him, but when I hear people saying he’s the best striker in the world … well, I think it’s time for MMA fans to learn about me and my team, put it that way. His biggest weakness is that he is all attack, he has no defense.

“Because of his lack of defense, he is open to taking a lot of punches to the head if he’s facing a skilled striker. You saw that in his second fight with Adesanya. He got caught because he leaves a lot of openings for people who know what they are doing…But I have beaten him before in pure striking competition, and I am sure I’ll do it again if we can get our trilogy match in the UFC,” Vakhitov said

Pereira has now responded.
