Alex Volkanovski vs. Brian Ortega ‘Probably’ Set For February

We now know the direction of the UFC Featherweight Title picture.

Alex Volkanovski is the reigning UFC kingpin at 145 pounds. He earned the title with his unanimous decision victory over Max Holloway back in December 2019. Volkanovski won the rematch via split decision to successfully retain the gold.

He is now moving on from “Blessed” to face a new challenger. During an interview with BT Sport, UFC President Dana White revealed that Brian Ortega is “probably” next in line for a shot at Volkanovski’s title. The matchup is being targeted for February.

Ortega took on the “Korean Zombie” Chan Sung Jung in his last outing. Ortega turned in an impressive performance on his way to a unanimous decision victory. It was his first fight in almost two years.

Both Volkanovski and Ortega have just one loss each on their pro MMA records. Volkanovski is 22-1 with the lone loss coming early in his career. Ortega’s record stands at 15-1, 1 NC with the one defeat being at the hands of Max Holloway.
