The bad luck for Alexander Gustafsson keeps coming.
The fight between Gustafsson and Ovince Saint Preux at UFC 282 has been postponed.
‘OSP’ announced the information on his OnlyFans page, writing:
“Same fight date, new opponent…….Gus is out and Philipe Lins is in. UFC 282 on December 10.”
In April, at UFC Fight Night: Lemos vs. Andrade, former PFL champion Lins defeated Marcin Prachnio by unanimous decision to get to the bout.
It’s unknown why Gustafsson withdrew, but it’s a blow for his Stockholm-based supporters as he now confronts another obstacle in his quest to recapture his previous greatness.
After suffering a submission loss to Anthony Smith in his hometown in 2019, the 35-year-old announced his retirement from the sport.
After one year, he went back to the octagon.
In Abu Dhabi, “The Mauler,” a heavyweight making the switch, was caught in an armbar by Fabricio Werdum in the opening round. When Gustaffson fought again, this time at light heavyweight, he was defeated by Nikita Krylov in the opening round at UFC London.
A matchup with Saint Preux is arguably a good fit for Gustaffson.
Gustaffson’s famous title battle with Jon Jones at UFC 165 is the main reason for his success.
UFC 282 is expected to be a crucial night for the light heavyweight class. Jiri Prochazka will make his first title defense in a rematch with former champion Glover Teixeira. Gustafsson and Czech are prominent European athletes.
The co-main event pits Jan Blachowicz against Magomed Ankalaev, rated third. Gustafsson has victories over both Blachowicz and Teixeira.
