Alexander Volkanovski Becomes A Lightweight Champion – February 1, 2014 (This Day In MMA History)
Alexander Volkanovski has grown into one of the most dominant fighters in the UFC.
Since going professional in MMA, Volkanovski has had just one loss, which happened in 2013 to Corey Nelson. But eight years ago today, Volkanovski went on a two-fight winning streak – one that’s now gone to 18 victories in a row.
At Roshambo MMA 2, Volkanovski submitted Greg Atzori via guillotine choke in the first round. With the win, he became the Roshambo MMA lightweight champion.
Today, he has upgraded him to the UFC featherweight champion with two successful title defenses against Max Holloway (twice) and Brian Ortega.
He is ranked No. 2 in the UFC’s men’s pound-for-pound rankings.
