Alvarez Gets Second Chance At ONE Grand Prix

Following an injury to the man who beat him in his ONE Championship debut, Eddie Alvarez has a shot to win the ONE lightweight Grand Prix.

Alvarez and Eduard Folayang’s August 2nd fight in Manila has been made a tournament semifinal this week after Timofey Nastyukhin was pulled from the Grand Prix due to injury.

Alvarez would be knocked out by Nastyukhin in his ONE debut earlier this year in a crushing first round knockout, and will face former lightweight champion Folayang, who lost his title to Shinya Aoki.

With a win Alvarez and Folayang will face off against Saygid Guseyn Arslanaliev, who has cut through the competition with two first-round knockouts, first against Ev Ting in 25 seconds and dropping Amir Khan in under three minutes.

This card will also feature the return of Demetrious Johnson who will fight  Tatsumitsu Wada in a flyweight tournament semifinal fight, with the winner facing whoever walks out of the Reece McLaren and Danny Kingad fight on the same card from the Mall of Asia Arena.

The headlining fight will see featherweight champion Martin Nguyen defend against Koyomi Matsushima.
