Alvarez/Golden Boy Lock In T-Mobile Arena for September 15
With negotiations between he and Gennady Golovkin back on, Canelo Alvarez has already locked down where he wants to make his return to the ring, whether it be against Golovkin or someone else.
According to a report from the Las Vegas Review Journal, Golden Boy Promotions, who promote Canelo Alvarez’ fights, have made a formal request to reserve T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas for a September 15th fight..
The request will most likely be approved by the Nevada State Athletic Commission at their monthly meeting on June 13th.
Alvarez was set to face Golovkin in a May 5th rematch of their September 2017 fight, but would earn a six month suspension by the Nevada commission for failing two drug tests in February.
The negotiations between the two popular middleweights was halted earlier this month, following Golovkin’s demands for an even money split between the two fighters. Oscar De La Hoya, CEO of Golden Boy Promotions pulled out of negotiations after Golovkin refused the 65-35, which was agreed upon for their May 5th fight.
The 50-50 demand was walked back after the IBF stripped Golovkin of his title for not fighting their mandatory opponent, Sergiy Derevyanchenko, and is open for a 55-45 split in Alvarez’ favor.
