Alvarez vs. Hart Targeted for June 28
Eleider Alvarez’s return to the ring following his WBO light heavyweight title loss appears to be taking place on June 28, as he’ll take on Jesse Hart, who moves up in weight. The bout would likely take place at the VideoTron Centre in Quebec City, Quebec, Canada.
Alvarez captured the WBO title from Sergey Kovalev last August, scoring a sudden, seventh-round knockout after being dominated for the first six rounds of the fight. Alvarez dropped the title back to Kovalev in early February in a one-sided loss.
Hart last competed in December, falling short in a second title shot against WBO super middleweight champion Gilberto “Zurdo” Ramirez. This snapped a three-fight win streak Hart was on since his first failed bid at Ramirez and the WBO 168-pound title, which also ended his then-22-fight unbeaten streak.
Hart’s one problem with the bout, however, is the location. Hart feels since he’s giving Alvarez the weight class, he should give Hart the location. Alvarez, a Colombian fighter, lives in Montreal, Quebec, while Hart lives in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
“I already giving him the weight. I haven’t grown into the 175-pound division so I don’t see why I would have to go to his backyard. We can do that fight right here in the United States,” Hart told Boxing Scene. “If they pay me enough I will go. Again I don’t see why I should have to bit if they show me enough money then we can get it.
“Alvarez is already going to be 35. He’s at that age where he’s slowing down. I saw the Kovalev fight. Probably it’s getting hard for him to make weight. He didn’t have it in that fight. I can beat him even worse.”
