Coach Din Thomas has revealed that Amanda Nunes is working towards her comeback and seeking a fight with UFC bantamweight champion Kayla Harrison this December.
Nunes had planned to retire from MMA for good following her most recent win over Irene Aldana back in 2023, but after Harrison secured the 135-pound belt, Nunes had a change of heart. Nunes even came face to face in the octagon with the new champion following her victory over Julianna Peña in June.
But, as a surprise to many, the UFC has not announced the official date for this match, despite the fact that many are considering it one of the biggest women’s MMA super fights of all time.
On a recent episode of UFC Unfiltered, one of Nunes’ coaches, Din Thomas, revealed to the public that “The Lioness” is targeting a December return, and obviously only has one fight on her mind.
“We in the lab cooking now,” Thomas said.
“Me and Amanda, she’s putting a team together.”
“We are cooking now and she’s hoping for December,” he added, giving a rough timeframe for her return.
Thomas also explained: “She was like, ‘I’m going crazy. I gotta find something to do…’ She’s healthy. She has no injuries and we’re right now in the process of organizing her life and camp and training so that she can just get to the fight in December if it happens.”
“No injuries. Just as strong and as clean as possible…”
