Amanda Nunes Plans To Keep Fighting If Victorious Over Harrison

Former two-division UFC champion Amanda Nunes intends to continue fighting if she defeats Kayla Harrison for the bantamweight championship at UFC 334 on November 14 at Madison Square Garden in New York.

Nunes will return from retirement to challenge Harrison in the co-main event, with Ciryl Gane facing Josh Hokit for the heavyweight title in the headliner.

Speaking on the UFC’s Deep Waters podcast, Nunes confirmed she intends to defend the championship if she defeats Harrison.

“You gotta defend the belt, for sure. Then we’re gonna see.”

Nunes also discussed her previous training sessions with Harrison, claiming the champion continues to make mistakes she noticed when they sparred together.

“We sparred, training. Honestly, when she first arrived in the gym a long time ago, I know she evolved a lot, but she still does the same mistakes since we sparred, you know?” Nunes said.

“I studied her a lot,” she added.

Harrison, a two-time Olympic judo gold medalist and former PFL champion, has remained undefeated in the UFC. She defeated Holly Holm and Ketlen Vieira before submitting Julianna Pena in June 2025 to claim the bantamweight title.

Nunes, meanwhile, retired in June 2023 after successfully defending her bantamweight championship against Irene Aldana. Her upcoming fight marks her first appearance in the Octagon in more than three years.

The matchup was originally scheduled for January 2026 but was postponed after Harrison required neck surgery.

Nunes will look to reclaim the bantamweight championship while exploiting the weaknesses she believes Harrison still possesses. If successful, she plans to defend the title rather than immediately retire again.
